Who are we?
The Teachers’ Resource Centre is a non-profit, non-government organisation, established in 1986. A group of educationists formed TRC as a response to the declining standards of education in both government and private sector schools. We are registered under the Societies Act XXI of 1860, and are tax exempt under section 47 (i) (d) of the income tax rules. TRC is managed by an elected Governing Body representing schools that use our services. We have a dedicated staff of full-time and part-time personnel, who carry out all TRC activities. Our membership consists of institutional members and associate members. The institutional membership consists predominantly of schools, whereas the associate members are individuals who are interested in our work and/or empathise with our philosophy. |

What do we believe in?
TRC views the learning process as one that involves far more than the simple transfer of information. Education is a process that requires an understanding of concepts, the acquisition of skills and the development of thinking and reasoning, communication and problem-solving skills. 'Real' learning takes place in secure, non-threatening environments, where respect for self and for others is fostered. Another integral part of TRC’s professional and intellectual ethos is environmental education, which we actively incorporate into all of our activities.

What exactly do we do?
In order to achieve our objectives, we:
- Organise workshops for various levels of the school hierarchy.
- Produce regular, as well as one-off, publications largely dedicated to improving pedagogy.
- Provide classroom support and workshop follow-up.
- Organise theme-based events that provide an opportunity for children, their parents and their teachers to participate in a shared activity.
- Maintain a professional resource library.
- Share our knowledge and skills with various organisations at different fora.
- Develop curricula for the early years.
- Work with the Federal Ministry of Education on matters related to Early Childhood Education.
- Develop teaching-learning resources for pre-primary and primary classes.
- Undertake educational research.
Our activities fall into two broad categories - membership-based and project-based.
Membership-based activities cater to our members’ needs. These activities are financed with membership fees, workshop fees, return on investments, donations and grants.
Projects provide us the opportunity to do hands-on development work with specific target groups, particularly low-income groups. Project funding comes from donor agencies and multinational corporations.
